Shannon Entropy

How random is this blob?

Entropy measures the average information per byte. Near 8.0 bits/byte usually means encryption or compression; 4–6 bits/byte is typical text or structured data; very low entropy hints at padding or repeated patterns. Paste text or hex to triage. Everything is computed locally.

Reading the number

≈ 8.0 — encrypted or compressed (indistinguishable from random). ≈ 5–6 — natural-language text. ≈ 6.5–7.5 — base64 / minified / packed code. < 3 — padding, single repeated byte, or structured binary. Entropy is a heuristic, not proof: base64 of a small string can look “random” while being trivially decodable.
